Children Aren’t Inferior Beings

I found a great quote this week, by Walt Disney:

“Too many people grow up. That’s the real trouble with the world, too many people grow up. They forget. They don’t remember what it’s like to be 12 years old. They patronize, they treat children as inferiors. Well I won’t do that.”

I love that. I think the world would be a much better place if some adults had been treated like, at the very least, humans, when they were babies.  If they were treated like people, with real emotions, real feelings, real needs .

Those needs include being fed when you’re hungry (which is a lot when you’re a baby). And they include being held when you cry -  a baby, just like an adult, will let you know when they don’t want to be held.

The way we treat our children is the way they will treat theirs – and with it the rest of the world.
