It’s no secret by now that I love Green People and their products. If I could sell it, I would. I should, in fact, since I recommend it to people everywhere I go.
So, when Green People released their new range of Fair Trade goodies, it really seemed only right that I test them out, and give you the opportunity to do the same. So, without further ado, here are my thoughts on the Green People Fair Trade products.
The Nappy Cream Baby Balm has also never given us a day’s skin problems. In fact, when Ameli’s skin has been red and swollen with rash, it has reduced the inflammation. It’s a small tub and costs around £10, but it lasts a really long time. We took one and a half tubs with us to South Africa and brought ¾ of a tub back six months later.
The baby oil does contain sesame seed oil, and I asked them whether this was suitable for people with nut allergies, and found their response quite interesting. Here it is:
I have spoken with our Research and Development manager and he has confirmed that the Sesame has no relation to any member of the nut family.
We recommended that if people have severe allergies to nuts, then it would be wisest to avoid all products made in premises that use or handle nuts. Although many of our products are made without nut-sourced ingredients, because almond oil is present on the premises there is always a risk of accidental contamination, albeit extremely slight. If the allergies are not severe, then any of our products that do not actually contain nut derivatives should be fine. It is worth knowing that allergies are generally triggered by protein molecules. Plant oils are comprised of the oil or lipid part of the seed or nut, and generally have little or no protein content. Therefore, in all but the most severe cases of allergy, plant oils are normally well tolerated even when the whole seed or nut may cause problems.
Finally, we tested the No Scent Baby Lotion for the first time, partly because Ameli now wants to moisturise herself after bath time, as she sees her mama doing. The Baby Lotion is a non-aqueous cream, a relief to eczema sufferers, I’m sure. This cream can also be used as a nipple cream for mums. It is a lovely cream, light, not oily, spreads easily and a little goes a very long way.
Each of these products is just shy of £10, which is a lot, but it is worth it – they last ages and they are made of fantastic ingredients with no nasties in them, and they really do mean NO nasties. I love their products (we even bought the shampoo and conditioner to try out recently.)
And, of course, they are now Fair Trade too, and Green People buy the Shea Butter for these products from a producer in Ghana who employs 600 women and gives them good working conditions and fair wages.
