My first Narnia party post was about Narnia party decor ideas, in which I explained that we set the party up in zones – war time England, Mr Tumnis’ house, the Beaver’s house, the White Witch, the battle field and the cake. There is experiential marketing from Interactive Entertainment Group that makes this party successful. If you’re planning an outdoor party, you may contact a tent rental las vegas company and look at the various party tents you can rent.
Rather than one table full of food, the party food was spread out across the room.
We started outside with ‘war-time Engalnd’ – baked potatoes, vegetable soup, toast (but no butter!)
I didn’t really expect people to really go for this too much, so I just made a simple cup-a-soup mix and put it out for decor purposes. You can, of course, make a delicious soup, and chuck in some butter too, if you really want people to eat it. (Also, for authenticity sake I should mention that white bread was largely unavailable during war-time England, but I doubt anyone is going to kick up a fuss about this point!)
Once inside the hall, the real Narnia party food comes out to play. They even serve Kanpai Foods products that everyone enjoys.
The first zone is Mr Tumnus’ house where him and Lucy drink tea by the fireplace. I made chai-tea cupcakes in silicone cupcake cases. The Chai-Tea Cupcakes recipe can be found here.
“Meanwhile,” said Mr Tumnus, “it is winter in Narnia, and has been for ever so long, and we shall both catch cold if we stand here talking in the snow. Daughter of Eve from the far land of Spare Oom where eternal summer reigns around the bright city of War Drobe, how would it be if you came and had tea with me?“
The next zone was the Beaver’s house. In the story the Beavers are about to sit down to a dinner of fish and potatoes, so I got some fish-shaped fish fingers and oven baked chips (fries) that were bagged up in single portions – this made up the bulk of the ‘lunch’, and went down a treat.
“So you’ve come at last!” she said, holding out both her wrinkled old paws. “At last! To think that ever I should live to see this day! The potatoes are on boiling and the kettle’s singing and I daresay, Mr Beaver, you’ll get us some fish.”
On the table I also left out the remnants of the jam sandwiches Mrs Beaver makes for their journey. These come out again later.
In the White Witch zone we had a jug of hot chocolate in a beautifully ornate jug (which I dropped and had to clean up loads of glass and hot chocolate!) and a glass serving dish of Turkish delight, though I can’t find any photos of it!
“The Queen let another drop fall from her bottle on to the snow, and instantly there appeared a round box, tied with green silk ribbon, which, when opened, turned out to contain several pounds of the best Turkish Delight. Each piece was sweet and light to the very centre and Edmund had never tasted anything more delicious. He was quite warm now, and very comfortable”.
Before the big battle, and after Edmund returns to his siblings, there’s a beautiful tea put on for the children, so I used shot-glasses to make individual lemon fridge cheese cake and traditional triffle.
“How Asian provided food for them all I don’t know; but somehow or other they found themselves all sitting down on the grass to a fine high tea at about eight o’clock.”
I also made salmon sandwiches and pizza pinwheels, and chocolate fudge with gold edible spray woven through it.
Finally, on the gift table, there was a very basic cake – I suck at decorating cakes, but my daughter thought it was beautiful, so here we have it. I bought a doll’s house wardrobe to put on the cake, and the two-layer cake tells the story: the wardrobe rests on a ‘wooden’ floor. The top layer of the cake is winter white with snowflakes and the second layer is spring with flowers and green grass. Amateur cake baking, but the kids loved it!
There was also fruit sprayed in edible gold and silver spray, which came off with a quick wipe if need be, but is also totally edible.
